Why Do I Blog?

I am currently participating in a class to hone my blog.  I can honestly say I love blogging. There are lots reasons, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t get into a rut and need a swift kick in the keyster every now and then.

My husband set up a blog long ago for me because he knew I enjoyed writing.  I largely ignored it because I really didn’t know too much about what blogging is, let alone how to do it right.  In the interim life took over.  I took on a part time job that lasted for nearly a year, and even though I worked with wonderful people, I felt I was being pulled in too many directions and felt as though everything I did was half assed, and I did not like that feeling.  So, I gave notice and tried to focus on me.

I’ve always enjoyed creating.  I have always liked art, but am not a super crafty person.  I do like creating with my own hands, but truthfully, only in small doses.  I get a creative whim every once in a blue moon and am happy and proud once finished, but I don’t get that urge all that often.  I also love cooking and fuel a lot of my creative spirit there.

However, I have always loved writing, and truth be told, talking.  My husband often kids that he’s glad I have friends that don’t mind listening to me so that he doesn’t always have to do all of the work 🙂 I even toyed with taking up writing in some fashion for my college major, but I never felt that my work was good enough or creative enough to actually make a living from.  So I shelved that idea.  Fast forward 20 years later, I realized that I truly do love writing, and I wanted to foster my creative spirit.  So, after I quit my job, I dove into trying to set up a blog and post regularly. And the reason is all about me–it just makes me feel good.  Writing transports me a world away, and I lose track of time in a good way.  I love when something I said hits home to another person and they understand where I am coming from.  Since I love cooking and eating, I also love to share recipes that I like.  Sharing a wonderful meal with other folks that will also enjoy it–even if I’m not there to share it with them, feels good.  Also, seeing how other people follow my posts–it’s kind of like crack–it’s insanely addictive to see that someone actually notices your efforts and often, appreciates your work and wants to see more.  So, yeah, I do it for selfish reasons.

But I also believe that my musings help to put a smile on someone’s face.  Makes their day brighter. Gives them an inspiration for dinner to make their life easier. I also love sharing some of my trips down memory lane as I know that others were there, or may as well have been in their own lives.

I still would like to get better at it.  I don’t want it to feel like a chore, and want to continue to figure out how to keep it fun.  So, I hope to keep up with what makes me feel good, even if it’s just for me, and hopefully others will get some enjoyment out of it in the process…
