Today’s Quickie: Easter Lessons Learned

Lessons learned this Easter…
- It’s Murphy’s Law that if you go to bed at 2 am, you just might wake up at 7 and not be able to go back to sleep. Even if your kids sleep 1 1/2 hours longer than you did. Figures.
- Always check your cream before you pour it into your coffee. Note to self, generally a glopping sound as you are pouring is not a good sign.
- If you think you probably have birthday candles, you should check anyway, because you just never know. Luckily, Tom got a mismatched “4” and “5” leftover from the kids as candle stand ins. I’m sure he loved the fact that I also had a blue race car candle to help make up for it 🙂
- Let it be a lesson to always read the church paper. Even if you might not feel like it. I knew something was a little off as when we pulled into the parking lot for Easter services and it was nearly empty. Odder still, we pulled into a spot in the front row 5 minutes before mass normally begins. Hmm. As I look at a sign posted on the door, mass times were changed for Easter and the 11:30 actually began at noon. We are never on time for church. In fact on holidays we are usually standing in the aisle or even outside. I don’t even think I was on time for my own wedding at church, although I can blame that on Tom, as he used the limo first before he sent it to my house. So, no, the church did not collapse on us as we arrived a full half hour before mass started. And it was indeed delightful to actually have a seat for the duration. Guess we needed some extra reflection time.
- Don’t forget to take your family picture when you return from church. Totally plum forgot. I’ll have to stage a photo of us one day when we are dressed and fake it.
- Don’t put slivers of pineapple on your spiral sliced ham when putting it on the grill. Ever. As I was looking at Tom taking a bite and I thought he might scrape the ham from his tongue, I knew something might be a bit peculiar. You might know that pineapple has enzymes. Well, who knew that tossing it on the grill for a couple of hours would be enough time for the enzymes to start “digesting” the ham? Well, sure as hell, not me! It was one of the oddest textured meats that I’ve ever had in my life. Sort of a cross between that white paste from kindergarten (if I actually ever ate it of course) and deviled ham. But, in nowhere near a pleasant way. I’m still having bad flashbacks…
But, all things considered, it was a glorious day. It was hard not to be in a good mood with such beautiful weather. Also, as a double bonus, as it was my husband’s birthday. Hosted some family and friends. Ate some. Drank some. Laughed some. Who could ask for a better way to spend the day? So, happy Easter to all, and to all a good night!
